Editorial Illustrations

 2016

Hand drawn then scanned and traced in illustrator

I chose to draw illustrations for this article because I felt it was (and still is) as an important and timely topic. The article discussed the recent surge in gun violence (or at least its media coverage) in the United States related to race and to the NRA’s relationship with congress. With the hand drawing I wanted to highlight the stereotypes associated with gun violence and call into scrutiny the NRA’s relationship with congress. This topic is highly controversial and uncomfortable, so I wanted to create images that would engender constructive conversations about it and help people work towards

solutions.

With the alarm clock drawing, I wanted to highlight the time sensitivity of this issue in not only the title of the article and the nature of pulling a trigger, but with the need to find a solution to this “ticking time bomb” of a problem.
